Inquiring Minds Casserole Brigade! Topic: Home

July 20, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

You are cordially invited to
INQUIRING MINDS CASSEROLE BRIGADE #8

Ah, summertime! Vacations, travel, visits from family and friends, busier than we thought we’d be . . . it’s a relief to come HOME. That is our next topic. What does home mean to you?

Here are some questions to consider:

  • The writer Pico Iyer says “home has really less to do with a piece of soil than, you could say, with a piece of soul.” Which place goes deepest inside you where you try to spend most of your time?
Make a list of words that describe the feeling of being “at home”—in yourself, with others, or in a particular place.
  • What does it mean to be homeless?
  • “Where are you from?” is often asked of those who don’t look or speak like us—A seemingly simple question, but complicated to answer. Does is mean: Where were you born? Where were you raised? Where do you pay taxes? How would you answer the question?
  • Travel is an incredible privilege that allows us to see things with new eyes. But it is “travel” only if we have a home to return to. How are the words “strange,” “exotic,” “foreign” and “alien” dependent on what we think of as “home” and what (and who) defines each?

For those of you who are new to the Brigades:

We (you) are a group of curious folks who gather together occasionally for nourishment and inspiration. We share food and conversation, laughter and questions. We leave all the personal and worldly problems and worries at the door, and savor community and connection. Who knows? This may be the solution to all our problems after all!

Each meeting convenes around a specific topic and suggested questions to explore and seed the conversation. No required reading. Just bring an open mind and heart. And a dish to share. Vegetarian options encouraged! Join us to nourish and be nourished by others, in body, mind and spirit.
